Les Herauts (The Heralds)

Heralds sound a fanfare and announce a decree to the subjects of the Kingdom. Originally woven in Flanders in the 16th Century and is now part of the Mobilier National in Paris.

This tapestry is from the series of hangings called The History of Artemisia, designed by Nicolas Houel and woven for Marie de Mdicis at workshops in Paris. The heralds sound their trumpets to announce the message that the Queen invites her subjects to present their requests.
